Texture - Dragonfly resting on tree

This time I want a dragonfly resting on a tree trunk, so need to make the tree first. Layered light and dark brown wool onto washaway, popped in some green for moss. Cut off some snips of novelty years, organza an fabric scraps.
Free motion stitching in a variety of brown and purple thread held it all together. Washed the stabilizer away and laid it flat to dry. Love the feel of it.

Found a green printed tulle, that will contrast as “forest” for the background. After laying this onto a green fabric, I sewed around the edges to baste it together. Roughly cut the tree trunk shape and sewed this to the tulle. I really like this trunk, but it needs a dragonfly.
Found a plastic film at Ajays Emporium, and sewed this as wings of a dragonfly. Auditioned several beads until found these glass ones that make a great body.
Quilting was limited to the trunk and added depth.
Felt there needed focus at the base of the tree, so created a “fern” using chenille yarn and “jazz” novelty threads. A few stone and glass beads complete the quilt. I love it.
